Product safety and compliance
Every model we sell has a stated age grading, is tested against the US standards that apply to it, and comes with documentation we can produce on request.
This page tells you the age grading for each model, what the models are tested for, and how to look after the lithium battery that powers them.
- Return window: 30 days from delivery
- Contact us before shipping anything back
- Return address is issued after we approve the request
- Refunds are issued within 3–5 business days of receipt
What the models are tested against
Being specific here matters more than sounding impressive. These are the standards and rules that apply to our products and materials:
- ASTM F963 — the US toy safety standard, currently ASTM F963-23. We test our models against its mechanical, physical and flammability requirements as the benchmark for construction safety, and we review each model against the current edition.
- 16 CFR 1303 — the ban on lead in paint and surface coatings. All painted and coated parts are tested.
- CPSIA section 101 — the limits on total lead content in accessible substrate materials.
- CPSIA section 108 — the limits on phthalates in certain children's products. We apply the same limits to the plastics used in our models as a matter of policy.
- 16 CFR 1501 — the small parts test, which is the basis for the choking hazard warnings on our packaging and listings.
- UN 38.3 — the transport testing that applies to the lithium polymer batteries in every model, and which our batteries and packs are required to meet in order to ship by air.
We will not describe our products as "meeting international standards", because that phrase does not tell you anything you can check. If you want to know what a specific model was tested for, email compliance@playpulserc.com with the model or SKU and we will send the test summary we hold.
Lithium battery safety
Every model is powered by a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery. LiPo packs are safe when they are used correctly, and they are the one component that can genuinely hurt you if they are not.
Charging
- Use only the charger supplied with the model. Never use a charger with a different voltage or connector, even if it fits.
- Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface, away from anything that can burn.
- Never charge a pack unattended, and never leave one charging overnight.
- Let a pack cool for about 20 minutes after a run before charging it.
- Do not charge a pack that is swollen, punctured, wet or damaged in any way.
Storage and use
- Store packs at room temperature, away from direct sun, and never inside a hot car.
- Do not short the terminals, and do not carry a loose pack in a pocket or a bag with metal objects.
- Do not puncture, crush, disassemble or modify a pack.
- Stop running the model the moment you notice a loss of power, an unusual smell, or the pack feeling much hotter than normal.
A swollen or damaged pack
Stop using it immediately. Do not charge it, do not discharge it and do not puncture it. Move it somewhere non-flammable and away from anything that can burn, then email support@playpulserc.com with a photo. Do not put it in household waste, and do not post it — a damaged pack is not accepted by normal mail services. We will tell you what to do with it.
If a pack ever catches fire, do not use water. Move away, let it burn out in a place where it cannot spread, and call the fire service if it is safe to do so.
Small parts and choking hazard
Some of our models and their spare parts contain small components that can be a choking hazard. These parts include gears, bearings, screws, body clips, wheels and drive pins.
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD — Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
This warning appears on the packaging of every model and every spare-part set that contains such components, and in the "Safety" section of every product listing.
Spare parts are sold as components and not as toys. They are not intended for use by young children, and they should be stored out of reach of anyone under 3. If a part is missing from a model in use, stop using the model until it is replaced — a loose gear or pin is exactly the kind of part that gets swallowed.
If you are buying for a household with young children, please treat the model, its battery and its smaller parts as you would any tool, and keep them where a small child cannot reach them.
Tracking and batch labels
Every model carries a batch label on the underside of the chassis or the inside of the battery compartment. It shows:
- the model or SKU
- the batch number
- the month and year of manufacture
- the country of manufacture
The label is there so that a batch can be identified if something is ever wrong with it. If we ever have to notify owners about a batch, this is the number we will ask for, and it is the number a retailer or a safety authority will look for.
Please do not remove the label. If your model arrived without one, or the label is unreadable, email compliance@playpulserc.com with the order number and a photo of the underside of the model, and we will record the batch for you.
If you are a retailer and you resell our models, keep the batch information with your stock records. It is the fastest way to trace a product back to the right batch if a question ever arises.
Compliance documents for retailers and resellers
If you sell PlayPulseRC products, we can provide documentation with the purchase. Email compliance@playpulserc.com with:
- the model name or SKU
- your company name and the country you sell in
- what specifically you need — for example a test report summary, a materials declaration, a battery transport document, or confirmation of the standards a model is tested to
We will send what we hold, and we will tell you plainly if part of it has to come from the manufacturer instead. If a retailer or marketplace requires a children's product certificate for a specific model, tell us — that is a different route, and it depends on how the model is being positioned.
If you are a customer and you want to know how a model was tested, you are welcome to ask too. Send the same email and we will send you the same summary.
We do not publish compliance certificates for download on this website, because they are documents issued for the supply chain and they can be misread outside it. Ask us directly and we will give you the accurate document for your situation.
How we set the age grading
| Model range | Age grading | Why |
|---|---|---|
| [1:18 scale brushed buggy] | 14+ | Small parts, replaceable gears and a lithium battery |
| [1:16 scale brushed monster truck] | 14+ | Small parts and a lithium battery |
| [1:12 scale brushless short-course truck] | 14+ | Higher speed, small parts and a lithium battery |
| [1:10 scale brushless truggy] | 14+ | Highest speed and weight in the range |
| [Spare parts and accessories] | Not a toy | Sold as components, not as complete products |
